Language as the main literacy

the focus and the main purpose of learning literacy in students should not only be on the material / learning content that they get everyday in school, but must be optimized by starting to shift towards the socio-cultural dimension.

Literacy learning should be carried out with high expectations in improving academic skills, developing students' cultural competencies, and developing social and political awareness of students and teachers. Literacy learning must also be intended so that students have critical competence in the text and place students as members of diverse socio-cultural groups.

Further literacy learning must be seen as social practices and group actions. Therefore, literacy learning must be placed as part of a complex social, cultural, political and economic system. This paradigm of language learning is then known as the critical literacy paradigm.

The critical literacy paradigm argues that literacy learning must encompass and emphasize textual criticism relating to issues of power, domination, and inter-group relations. Literacy learning must examine how texts, readers, and writers operate in a variety of social and cultural contexts. Through this method of view, learning literacy is not only aimed at developing students' literacy skills but furthering giving birth to students who are critical of the various information they receive
